Moving to another city – by Alicia Kapa

20 October 2022

So in my last blog, I said I had something exciting happening that I was going to tell you about in my next blog. The exciting news is that I moved again, not only houses but also cities and even islands!!

I have moved to Christchurch which is on the South Island of New Zealand. I came for a week in April to see my best friend Leah and I was thinking about the idea ever since. Auckland was not for me and I was not happy there no matter how hard I tried. My parents are in Auckland which was my main problem with deciding to move but I decided to have faith in myself and embark on a new chapter.

One month on and I’m loving it. During my first week, I stayed with my family friends who looked after me from when I was about 3 months old so we are loving being so close again. I have found a perfect place that I am renting now. It is on a farm and attached to the main house so I have my own space but there are also people around. The owner, her son, daughter and friend are absolutely lovely and I don’t think I could have found a better place and landlord/friend if I tried.

I am working at MediFab which does equipment for people who have disabilities as the Business Development Administrator. I have been there 2 weeks and I’m also loving it, Leah is a rep so I get to see her when she is in the office and everyone is so nice and helpful. I’m currently still training but there is a lot for me to do which is awesome.

Overall, I have made the right decision and I can’t wait to see what I achieve down here!

About the author:

I am a born and raised young New Zealand Māori woman. I was born with cerebral palsy which affects my muscles but not my mind. I am just like any other young person who has dreams, and aspirations and enjoys having fun. I am in my fourth year at the University of Auckland studying Criminology and Māori Studies with dreams of one day working in the justice system. I have a YouTube channel called Wheely Wacky Adventures where my friend Leah and I share videos of our adventures such as skydiving and bungy jumping just to name a couple. I am full of life and ready to take on what comes for me.

Good on you. I'm considering finally leaving WA.western Australia.
I did move to Lower Hakatere. Great no city stresses. But too cold for me.
